This paper proposes that the thick data approach that is drawn from both epistemological stances, can serve a creative way to create and accumulate knowledge in our field.Abstract:Along with the development of big data approach, the emphasis on exploratory data analysis in our field has emerged. However, the epistemology behind this methodology has yes been developed and discussed, leaving a number of puzzles that may hinder the cooperation between positivists and pragmatists. This study is an attempt to depict how pragmatist view about "thick data," a methodology that pays more attention to "interpretation and story telling of patterns emerging from empirical data, including big data, could serves as an alternative approach to existing streams of research on causality.
